It’s 2019, and Lent this year begins on March 6, with the arrival of Ash Wednesday. Join me for a daily meditation during this Holy Season, based on the Collect of the Day. These prayers from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer are intended to gather the people and to provide a focus for daily and Sunday worship. The meditations will be available online in both oral and written formats.
Our approach is to use a variation of Visio Divina, which means “sacred sight,” inviting us to take a deep dive into the meaning of the text by meditating on the passage paired with a selected photographic image. We recommend that you try this four step method:
- Read or listen to the passage carefully, taking note of a word or phrase that elicits a reaction.
- Look deeply into the image, focusing on a portion that especially captures your attention.
- Reflect prayerfully on any thoughts or feelings that arise for you.
- Finally, act decisively to make a difference, even a small one, in your world.
May you have a rich and blessed Lenten journey. Peace and Blessings, Jon
The title of this Lenten series of meditations, “New and Contrite Hearts” comes from the Collect for Ash Wednesday in the Book of Common Prayer.
