O Lord, strong and mighty, Lord of hosts and King of glory: Cleanse our hearts from sin, keep our hands pure, and turn our minds from what is passing away; so that at the last we may stand in your holy place and receive your blessing; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Look at this image of the incredible landscape of Chilean Patagonia. What is your first impression? Now look more closely at some aspect of this picture that especially calls to you. So much from which to choose! Details of the majestic mountains, colors of the water, sky and stone. What do you enjoy most about this image?
Reflect. In today’s Collect we pray that “at the last we may stand” in God’s holy place. Some of us immediately think of places of worship as holy places. Others think of locations of tremendous natural beauty. In truth, the Divine can be found everywhere, waiting patiently for us to come. Consider the threefold prayer to cleanse our hearts, our hands, and our minds. What might you do to prepare to stand in the holy place and receive the Divine Blessing?
Act. Today be intentional about your awareness of God’s presence in your life. Take some time in silence to pray. Perhaps in a special place in your home, neighborhood or place of worship. If you can find a quiet place of natural beauty, you may make wonderful discoveries today. What will you do? Where will you go?
Thanks for taking part in New and Contrite Hearts. Your comments are very welcome—let others know what you saw and experienced. Until next time, may you have a most blessed Lent.
